Data Networking
There are several types of cable used in network platforms. The minimum required for today’s needs is the CAT5e cable, which can handle up to a gigabyte of data per second (Gpbs). Many older businesses have a legacy wiring infrastructure that may have CAT3 or CAT5 (without the “e”). CAT5 cable will work for a regular primary network, such as a 10/100 network, but would not be suitable for a gigabit network. With older wiring, your system may allow browsing but data required for current applications will cause it to run very slowly. Our team will work with you to design the best solutions for your current and future data needs.
Available Wiring Options
- Cat5E (Enhanced) Wiring – offers significantly improved performance over Cat5 cable, including up to 10 times faster speeds and a significantly greater ability to traverse distances without being impacted by crosstalk. Cat5e can handle up to 1 Gbps.
- Cat6 Wiring – can handle up to 10 Gbps over a limited distance.
- Cat6A Wiring – can maintain 10 Gpbs speeds for the full 328 feet of Ethernet cable.
- Fiber Optic – enables the fastest Internet connections currently available. Fiber optic transmits data as pulses of light through an optical fiber (rather than as an electric signal through a copper wire). This allows the transfer of much more data, over a longer distance with less electromagnetic interference.
